April 2023 newsletter

Hi everyone! I would like to introduce myself to you all.  Some of you may have seen me already in the clinic. I am Martin the new Practice Manager, starting at KH early March.  My background is in Nursing, IT, PHOs and General Practice Management.  I have 2 kids Ben and El and live with my Fiancé Anita who is an accountant. I love the outdoors, fishing, mountain biking and just immersing myself in our very beautiful Northland Tai Tokerau environment and capturing this beauty with photography.

From my first few weeks working at KH, I can see this practice is a vibrant forward-thinking practice that is willing to embrace innovation and strives to deliver a high level of service to its patients.

I am relishing the opportunity of working with this amazing team and will endeavor to help your experience in the practice be a positive one.

STAFF

We would like to welcome some new/returning staff to our team, Nurse Rachel, Nurse Jade and Nurse Practitioner Leanne, and we are also recruiting new HCA and reception/admin staff. And while we welcome the new additions, we sadly farewell Lauren on reception and Jo one of the PGY2 Doctors.  We are lucky though to have Karla join our PGY2 team.  We would also like to wish Nurse Niki a fabulous time as she embarks on her maternity leave.

KH takes pride in being a teaching practice and with this comes a large throughput of students and new graduates.

Recently we have had the pleasure of hosting 2 Paramedic students who have some time with us experiencing the General Practice environment.  This all lends itself to improving collaboration in the health sector.

NURSING

Nurse Trish and her team remain busy with the nursing duties, and we are getting good numbers through for the flu vaccinations.

Please if you would like a Flu vaccination this winter contact our reception team to make an appointment: 09 437 9070.

RECEPTION/ADMIN Reception is extremely busy, and we value your patience and consideration in the height of these extremely demanding periods.

ENROLMENTS

We are now taking new enrolments to anyone who needs a General Practice, so please do tell your family, friends, and acquaintances to come and see us if they would like to enrol at KH.  Please feel free to take an enrolment form away with you and pass it on if you’d prefer.

FEE INCREASE

Come May 1st we will be increasing our fees to align with the average fees of neighbouring practices in Northland. Our fees still remain lower than the majority of other non-vlca (very low cost access) practices. The new price structure is as follows.

Age GroupHas CSC/HUHCNo CSC/HUHC
0-13FreeFree
14-17$13.00$32.00
18-64$19.50$49.50
65+$19.50$45.00

WEBSITE

KH is in the process of developing a new website where we aim to provide relevant content and keep you better informed. Once this is live, we will announce this to you.

KH FACEBOOK PAGE

KH also has a Facebook page that we would like to make you aware of.  We are planning to post more content here and aim to use this as a platform to help us engage more readily with the community.

NEW BUILD We are getting really excited as we see the end nearing of the new clinic additions next door.  With these renovations approaching completion, we will be better positioned to deliver improved services in a new modern space. I know that KH will continue to grow and evolve as it embraces innovation and expands it services it can offer to the Northland community.

Together with the neighbouring wider Kensington Health Hub services we can see tremendous potential to improve access to healthcare through the integrated services on offer in our region.

DAVES RETIREMENT

As Dr Dave gears up for his retirement he is passing over his patient load to the other doctors at KH.  So please rest assured that we will still provide the same high standard of care you would have been accustomed to as one of Dave’s patients. If you are one of Dave’s patients, then you should have hopefully received a letter outlining Dave’s transition.

We would like to thank Dave for his many caring years looking after so many people and we would also like to acknowledge his massive contribution to the fields of General Medicine, Hospice and Aged Care.

PAY IT FORWARD

Lastly, we will be introducing a new initiative to KH which is a Pay It Forward donation fund.  The idea is that patients who want to can contribute any amount into this fund that could then be used to help other patients with their own medical journeys.

Our directors have mentioned that they themselves would like to contribute to this fund to start off a balance.

We will let you know more detail on this once this is fully set up and is able to be utilised.

Free flu immunisation for Māori and Pasifika whānau

Protect yourself and your whānau from flu this winter.

For Māori and Pasifika whānau, getting immunised against flu at your GP this winter is free in Tai Tokerau.

Flu can make you feel very sick and cause serious illness, and it spreads easily.

Getting immunised means you are less likely to pass flu to vulnerable members of your whānau.

Anyone six months or older can get immunised.

Ask at your general practice or pharmacy for more information.
